The Social Poets: Groundhog Day Louisiana Style: New Orleans T-Boy, Baton Rouge Boudreaux: From Denny: Groundhog Day contenders are popping up all over America. Groundhogs are not native to Louisiana (because it's too hot) but we didn't allow a little factoid like that to stop us. Louisiana likes it's holidays so what effort was it to rustle up another creative idea than to draft the swamp rat nutria into the Groundhog Day?
Up in the northern part of America it's considered really bad news when a groundhog sees its shadow, foretelling another miserable six weeks of winter. But here in Louisiana it means a spring that is shorter than usual.
A short spring means summer's grueling heat and drippy humidity will return sooner than desired. So, you see, burrow-loving animals can come in handy to predict the weather both in the chilly North and the hottie Deep South.
From Denny: Where old school Playboy Magazine meets Miss Outrageous resurrecting 80's Madonna. My only question is just how long did it take to do all the makeup and "costume" changes for this shoot? Gaga had to mug extra hard probably just to stay awake. That's it, she's yawning at us. Ever outrageous and great fun, enjoy Lady Gaga.
There are some killjoys that don't like her or her music but I remain a fan because she is unconventional and willing to take risks. And since I've always taken hits for taking risks when others were fearful I stand to defend those artists like Lady Gaga who are exploring their creativity. In the end, she will mellow out in a few decades and have created some interesting visuals that will live in artistic history for future generations.
This film clip is not exactly family friendly since it is overtly sexual so if that is a bother to you then move along. If you understand this is just art from a creative person, watch on.
From Denny: Tonight Lady Gaga kept us laughing as she made her grand entrance to the Grammy Awards. She was encased in a giant egg, declaring she was "in incubation" in preparation for her Grammy ceremony performance. What a funny diva.
Gaga arrived on the famous red carpet carried inside an alien-looking dinosaur egg while carried royally aloft by attendants dressed in the appropriate diva gold. It was difficult to see her inside the egg. Gaga, now age 24, is competing for six awards tonight.
Remember the MTV Music Video Awards last September? Yeah, the really bizarre attention getter was when she donned a dress of ewwww! raw red meat. That stunt - and the "dress" - sure grabbed headlines.
As to tonight's entrance she tweeted from the red carpet: "This is Nicola, Haus of Gaga: Gaga is in incubation. Tonight's performance is in collaboration with Hussein Chalayan and House of Mugler. X"
Lady Gaga is expected to perform her new single "Born This Way" live on the Grammys stage later tonight.
What Lady Gaga has to say about her outrageous outfits and their inspiration:
"There's nothing that I've ever put on my body that I didn't understand where it came from, the reference of it, who inspired it. There's always some sort of a story or a concept that I'm telling."
As to her song writing (bad) habits, she admits she smokes weed and drinks whiskey when composing. Gaga says she has come to realize that doing so isn't so good for her voice so she tries not to do it too often.
She says she does not encourage her fans to do the same. "I don't want to encourage kids to do drugs... and I don't lie. I'm not a liar. I built good will with my fans. They know who I am. And I'm just like them in so many ways."
