A Truth Journal: Heckled First Lady Michelle Obama: Accused As Angry Black Woman? Come On; Really?

A Truth Journal: Heckled First Lady Michelle Obama: Accused As Angry Black Woman? Come On; Really?: From Denny:  Now First Lady Michelle Obama is accused of being the archetypal "angry black woman" for daring to stare down and get in the face of an inept protester who just thought the First Lady would tolerate her rudeness. Where do people get these ideas about how this was a racist heckling incident with white entitlement overtones?

Well, never to be a shrinking violet from controversy on my blog, let's start with the "angry black woman" stereotype...

A Truth Journal: CIA Petraeus' Affair: What Questions Still Need Answering In Spite of BS Story Lines?

A Truth Journal: CIA Petraeus' Affair: What Questions Still Need Answering In Spite of BS Story Lines?:

From Denny:  Any time we witness a fall from grace of a very public figure we all wince.  Maybe it's a case of TMI.  Maybe it's because our thoughts swiftly fly to the embarrassed wife and children in sympathetic support.  Maybe we have been betrayed in a similar fashion and don't enjoy the reminder.  Or just maybe we were the thoughtless wonders who did the hurting.

Whatever the case this is always a sad event.  When you add the intelligence community component it could too easily evolve into a national security disaster.  Move over, Wiki Leaks, the old-fashioned honeypot trap works in any century as an easy way to extract sensitive information.

The Social Poets: New York Times Un-American To Criticize Olympics Athlete Lolo Jones Before Race: From Denny:  Now we enter the den of The Media Stupid, courtesy of the compromised New York Times. There seems to be a rather nasty bunch of writers over there these days, a sharp detour away from the stable of interesting intellectuals they once sported.

The current group has too many members who are all about plagiarizing letters to the editor (like what happened to me one too many times so I quit reading them years ago, then started up my own pack of blogs as a copyrighted version of letters to the editor.  Hey, it works for me.)

Their other favorite tactic now is ripping an Olympic athlete just days before competition.  How un-American can you get to criticize any athlete representing your country just before competition?

Dennys Global Politics: Afghanistan: WTF? What Was American Military Thinking Burning Religious Books?: From Denny: Who would think a little house cleaning would create such an uproar in the Middle East? As usual the military is so action and task oriented they forgot to use their brains. Book burning of any kind is bad news in my mind.

But when you are burning books that are in a foreign language you can't read, don't you think it would have been smart to consult a few locals to sift the books for you, instead of indiscriminately burning everything?

They would easily spot the religious books and set them aside. But no, the military employed their usual stupidity, need for speed and just marched onward.

The Social Poets: President's Day Flash Mob: Seniors Take To The Streets, Sing Patriotic Songs

The Social Poets: President's Day Flash Mob: Seniors Take To The Streets, Sing Patriotic Songs: From Denny: You know it isn't cool any more when the old guys adopt the younger generation's culture like flash mobs. :)

Seriously, this was a group of seniors from the World War 2 generation that remember growing up in the tough economic times of the Great Depression.

They also remember how they used to pick up their spirits - and those around them - by singing in groups their favorite patriotic songs on holidays like President's Day.

Dennys Funny Quotes: 61 Best of Funny Mardi Gras Photos: From Denny: Who said Valentine's Day had to be a bummer for the folks flying solo during this holiday? These funny Mardi Gras photos, mocking just about anything and everything that moves, will certainly bring a smile to your face.

Visual Insights: Whimsical Funny Hats At Ascot Ladies Day

Dragonfly red hat, photo by Suzanne Plunkett/Reuters

Visual Insights: Whimsical Funny Hats At Ascot Ladies Day: "From Denny:  Check out the outrageously fun and whimsically styled hats women were sporting today at the Ascot Racecourse near London on Ladies Day.  It's held on the third day of racing during the Royal Ascot meet and is considered the highlight of the week at the track.

It's sort of like wearing a high class clown suit but everyone admires you, your creativity - and your daring to be the spectacle of public ridicule and laughter -  for wearing such a creation."

From Chef Ming Tsai: Chinese New Year Festival and Recipes

From Denny: Chinese New Year 4709, that occurs in our Western year of 2011, starts its celebration on the new moon of February 3rd. It's considered a Spring festival and lasts for 15 days. This is the Year of the Rabbit and the Chinese sure do know how to celebrate! :)

Lots of preparations go into this Lunar New Year celebration with organizing that gets underway about a month before the event. People start buying gifts, decorations, food and clothing.

The Chinese clean their houses thoroughly as part of the cleaning ritual to prepare for receiving the New Year. The tradition is the belief they are sweeping away bad luck. Bad luck or bad germs, it works either way.

Since red is the preferred color of Chinese culture they also apply fresh red paint to doors and windowpanes for the New Year. Windows and doors also get hung with happiness, wealth and longevity decorations.

On Chinese New Year's Eve there is a special dinner of dumplings and seafood to gift good wishes to all the diners. It's considered good luck to wear red to ward off evil spirits. Remember, don't wear black or white either because those colors are associated with sadness and mourning in Chinese culture.
